By now, I'm starting to get a feel for the classroom. I honest didn't think I would like this class that much to begin with, but I'm really enjoying myself in this class right now. From the way that we run things, to the teaching style, to the communication between my classmates. I hope that this will all continue throughout trimester two and three. Even though I'm starting to get into the swing of things, I'm obviously still learning new things.
Before this week, I didn't know that you could analyze such a short poem! In class we started reading and analyzing The Eagle by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It's only a six lined poem, but it has a deeper meaning than just an eagle. To me, the poem uses lots of imagery to make it seem like it's about a strong mighty king and how he and his kingdom fall. At first I thought it was boring just trying to analyze such a short poem, but as I read it more I came to understand the poem more clearly. I think it was a great way to start helping the students learn how analyze more efficiently.
During class this week, we had two opportunities to do some creative writing. I found it to be very insightful as we learned some new tips and tricks on creatively writing. I like that we were able to brainstorm a few ideas that we wanted to write about before we started to write. I ended up writing about a small fictional story about space. I think that next time I want to write something more personal and about myself. Creative writing is a lot of fun because you're constantly typing new ideas that you write or type down as they come to your mind. It's such a great way to possibly inspire future writers and it's also good if you have writers block so that you can just write down the random ideas that come to your mind.
The class was able to break up into different groups throughout the week whether it was for analyzing The Eagle, or do discuss the summer reading. I'm glad that this class encourages openness and communication with one another. Being the social person that I am, I really enjoy talking with people that I don't usually talk to. It was cool being able to share my ideas and thoughts of the poem and reading. It's such a great way to not only build social skills, but friendships too. I really hope that English 101 at college will be like this AP Lit class in the future because I'm having a grand time!
This Ted Talk is all about how to communicate with others so that they want to listen to what you have to say. I found it intriguing and I enjoyed the way he speaks because it does want me to listen to him.
